Arnold offers a wide range of machines for the fiber optics industry

An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. Optical fibers are used most often as a means to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber and find wide usage in fiber-optic communications, where they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than electrical cables. Fibers are used instead of metal wires because signals travel along them with less loss; in addition, fibers are immune to electromagnetic interference, a problem from which metal wires suffer excessively. Fibers are also used for illumination and imaging, and are often wrapped in bundles so they may be used to carry light into, or images out of confined spaces, as in the case of a fiberscope.

Arnold Customized MCVD Systems

The MCVD process is one of several processes for the production of gradient fibers. In this process, a glass tube is coated from the inside and the fiber core is only inserted at the end. A gas mixture that determines the refractive index is fed to the quartz glass. Layers with different refractive indices are created by repeatedly supplying and changing the gas mixture.

Preperation lathes

The precision machines for versatile and demanding use, for example for the production of glass electrodes, lamp bulbs made of quartz glass, glass-metal connections and for the general simplification or mechanization and automation of many work steps in glass and quartz glass processing.

Cutting Saw

Machine for cutting long, cylindrical tubes or rods made of glass, quartz glass, porcelain, ceramics and similar material with diameters 5mm to max. 130 mm and a length up to 2.500 mm. By one-time turning of the working piece also larger diameters of up to max. 200 mm can be cut.
The unit is designed for cutting discs of 400 mm diameter.
